AtheroGenics is collaborating with Astellas Pharma, Inc. (formerly Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co.), a worldwide leader in transplantation therapies, to develop its novel compound, AGI-1096, as an oral treatment for the prevention of organ transplant rejection. This collaboration is expected to leverage AtheroGenics' expertise in discovering innovative treatments for chronic inflammation with Astellas’ world-class experience in transplant rejection therapies. Under the agreement, AtheroGenics and Astellas are collaborating on preclinical and early stage clinical development studies, with Astellas funding all development costs during the term of the agreement. Astellas will also receive an option to negotiate for late stage development and commercial rights to the compound.
